How can I navigate summer vacation with an ex?

Summer vacation time is once again right around the corner and kids all over Texas may be excited to be out of school for a few months. If this summer is the first one after a divorce for your family, it will no doubt be a different type of summer for you and your kids. How can you make sure your children are able to fully enjoy their summer break with this magnitude of change in their lives?

Parenting magazine recommends that you keep the needs of your kids front and center. It can be all too easy for parents to let their own emotions get in the way and before you know it, you and your ex are in a battle about whose plans for summer are better. At the end of the day, it’s not about you or your former spouse but about your kids. Keeping this perspective can go a long way toward maintaining a positive attitude not just for you but for your children.

If your kids are old enough, you may also want to engage them in some of the summer planning. This will give them a greater sense of control that may help them through this transition year. It may also allow you to help them ensure that some longstanding favorite activities are still able to happen.

This information is not intended to provide legal advice but is instead meant to help Texas parents who are divorced navigate the summer holidays with their children and their former partners for the good of their joint kids.
