Is your marriage at risk of failing?

On Behalf of | Apr 20, 2022 | Divorce |

No one can say for certain that a marriage will fail. However, researchers say that certain signs indicate that some relationships are more likely to fail than others. Take a look at a few of the factors that might increase your chances of visiting a Texas divorce court at some point in the future.

Do you communicate well with your spouse?

One of the keys to a successful relationship is good communication. Therefore, if you find that you don’t talk to your spouse on a regular basis, it may indicate that you don’t have a healthy relationship with this person. This is true even if you think that avoiding painful conversations may prevent your marriage from failing. In reality, stonewalling your partner simply allows feelings of hurt or resentment to build without providing a healthy outlet for those emotions.

Do you have respect for your spouse?

There is a good chance that your spouse says or does things that annoy or embarrass you, and it’s perfectly acceptable to express that those words or actions bother you. However, it is not acceptable to have contempt for your spouse or to think that you are better than that person because they are a flawed human. If you do, it may cause your partner to feel rejected or unloved.

This may be especially true if you consistently belittle your partner about their looks or opinions on certain issues. Eventually, this may cause your partner to mentally exit the relationship even if they don’t actually file divorce papers.

All relationships take work, particularly a long-lasting partnership like marriage. If you want to avoid heading to divorce court, it’s important to show respect and make a good effort at communicating.
