What does your child need for an enriched life?

On Behalf of | Oct 6, 2017 | Child Support |

Texan parents like you will have to ask yourselves this exact question when heading into a divorce. Child support payments are a way for both parents to continue having a hand in raising their child even after splitting up, and in many cases, these payments are necessary to the child’s overall quality of life.

Findlaw immediately busts the myth that child support payments are only meant to cover the most basic necessities a child requires in their life, like food or clothing. While those things are certainly important and can be quite costly, child support is meant to do more than simply ensure a child survives. It’s supposed to ensure that your child is thriving too, even if you and your ex-spouse have gone your separate ways.

So what does thriving mean, exactly? What activities or categories are considered more than a basic necessity, but still vitally important to the enrichment of your child’s life? Some examples include:

  • Extracurricular activities like clubs or sports
  • Educational fees
  • Entertainment
  • Medical expenses

Some of these are seen as more vital than others. For example, having solid healthcare will have a direct and immediate impact on your child’s overall health and wellbeing. Being able to achieve an education is also important for their future. However, the enrichment that comes from things like clubs, sports, or even hanging out with friends after school shouldn’t be underestimated.

These aren’t unnecessary. They’re of key importance to the development of your child. For a rich, balanced life and a happy child, you’ll want a solid child support payment plan and a strong idea of where that money will go.
