Distraught over child custody case, man calls in bomb threat

It's a sad but true fact for the children caught in the middle of a marital split. Child custody issues can be some of the most contentious disputes in a divorce and children are often unfortunate witnesses of their ugliness. Generally speaking, both parents love their children and want what's in the best interest of the child, they just disagree on the definition of "best." One parent will define it as the child coming to live with them, while the other will argue just the opposite. Helping both sides come to an amicable agreement on custody and visitation rights is the work of a family law attorney.

Sadly, many parents choose to take the law into their own hands. They act out foolishly and hurt their chances of custody and even visitation. That's the case with one father who, upset with a judge's ruling in his child custody case, called the courthouse and left threatening voicemails. In them, he allegedly threatens violence and demolition of the courthouse with a bomb threat.

Police caught up with the man shortly thereafter and charged him with two felonies. His bond was set at $250,000.

Cases like these demonstrate two things. One, custody battles can become so heated that parents resort to extreme measures. Two, using violence or threats of violence is not going to help your cause. Understand that giving in to your basest urges is only going to end badly.

If you're in a situation you think is unwinnable and you're feeling desperate, know that you still have rights, even if a judge has already ruled. A Texas attorney may be able to help you get what's called a child custody modification. It allows you and your former spouse to work out a different arrangement that might allow you to see your child. The attorney can listen to your story and advise you on your best course of action.
